These optional sleep details help us understand the conditions around each sleep session. This can be especially helpful when something happens that’s not the norm for your child, as indicated in your questionnaire answers.
For example, if your child falls asleep in the car at a random time, it may indicate inadequate sleep the night before. Here are descriptions of each icon:

Long time to fall asleep
The child took longer than 15-20 minutes to fall asleep.
(Taking 15-20 minutes to fall asleep after being laid down is normal.)
Fell asleep in 10-20 minutes
The child fell asleep within 10-20 minutes.
Under 10 minutes to fall asleep
The child fell asleep quickly, in under 10 minutes.
Emotional state
Upset
The child was particularly upset before going to bed, such as crying and resisting going to sleep.
Content
The child was not upset at the start of sleep.
How it happened
On own in bed
Fell asleep in own bed or crib, without a caregiver in the room.
Nursing
Fell asleep while breastfeeding, or got very drowsy while breastfeeding and fell asleep right after.
Worn or held
Fell asleep while being held in arms or worn in a baby carrier.
Next to caregiver
Fell asleep with caregiver nearby, but not in the same bed or crib
Co-sleep
Fell asleep together with a caregiver in bed.
Bottle
Fell asleep while drinking a bottle, or got very drowsy while drinking a bottle and fell asleep right after.
Stroller
Fell asleep while bring pushed in a stroller or pram.
Car
Fell asleep in the car.
Swing
Fell asleep in a baby swing or bouncer.
End of sleep conditions
Woke up child
Someone or something (e.g., an alarm, loud barking) woke up your child. Blissful sleep would have continued otherwise.
Upset
Woke up particularly upset, as if in pain, scared, or not rested enough.
Content
Woke up content and not upset.
